Mobile's History
Next week we are going to begin learning about the history of Mobile. Parents, please list one landmark or historical fact found in Mobile and briefly state why you think it is important for students to learn.
I would like my child to learn more about Dauphin Island and the original settlers there. The island has a very rich history and most children in Mobile County are not aware of the history there.
Hank Aaron stadium is a fun place for kids to visit. My son loves baseball so I think he would be interested to go here and learn about Hank Aaron, and how he grew up in Mobile!
Mobile Bay was founded as a port and continues to this day as a port, providing thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in revenue for residents of Mobile. It is one of the largest ports in the Gulf Coast. This is important because it is a big part of Mobile’s history.
I belive discussing the origin of Mardi Gras here in Mobile is very significant. Mobile was once the capital of the French Lousiana area back in 1703, 15 years before New Orleans was founded.
I believe the battle ship is very significant landmark and piece of history that I would like my child to learn more about.

DeleteFort Conde is an important historical site in Mobile. Students should learn about the role it served during war times.

ReplyDeleteThe origin of Mardi Gras is a great topic! A lot of students are not aware of how Mardi Gras came to Mobile and its significance.
